Apprenticeships for you
Apprenticeships are government funded training programmes that follow an approved framework consisting of a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), key skills qualification(s) and a technical certificate. Learning takes place both in the workplace and with a training provider in the classroom.
As Centre of Excellence for Fitness, Lifetime offers two apprenticeships – the Fitness Instructor and the Activity Leader apprenticeship – which are delivered in just 16 weeks from start to finish, with the first 3 weeks being spent in the classroom and the remaining 12 weeks, in a health club, gym or leisure centre. These apprenticeships will provide you with the relevant skills and industry-recognised qualifications to secure a job as a fitness instructor, activity leader, life guard, assistant sports coach or leisure attendant. In addition, you will be supported and mentored by your own personal tutor throughout the programme ensuring you get the best start to your new career.

We’re also proud to say that we were awarded as Centre of Excellence for Fitness for National Employers by the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure which means you receive the best training and support to get your career off to a flying start.
The Apprenticeship Expansion Programme (AEP)
The Apprenticeship Expansion Programme (AEP) is an exciting and very relevant government initiative designed to assist 16-24 years gain employment in the health and fitness industry. Delivered by Lifetime, in conjunction with the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure (NSA), the AEP is to fund hundreds of activity leader and fitness instructor apprentices during their first 12 weeks in the industry whilst they complete their National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in the workplace.
This initiative is great news for the industry, for employers and for apprentices. AEP is an opportunity for you to receive an additional training allowance – either directly from the NSA if you secure a work placement or as part of your salary from your employer if you secure a fulltime (min. 16 hours) job – of £95 a week, making your first few months in the industry much easier.
Plus to help you find your first job in the industry we’ll give you guidance on how to create a CV, interview skills and tips and an employer pack that explains to a General Manager of a fitness facility all about the Apprenticeship Expansion Programme and why you and the programme will be good for their business!
