Exercise to Music
This is a five day practical course for the aspiring aerobics instructor.
- Use of music
- Understand the song structure, beats, phrases and how to use them in an exercise to music context.
- Essential teaching skills
- To teach an Exercise to Music class safely and effectively requires many skills including effective communication, observation and exercise correction.
- Choreography
- Learn the basic ETM moves and how to progress these moves to ensure your class is fun, exciting and effective.
- Preparing people for exercise
- Introducing your class and essential warm up skills are needed to ensure your participants are ready to do their workout.
- Class design and structure
- Learn how to design your class so that the different components run in a logical and effective order and sequence to maximise comfort and safety for your class.
- Muscular strength and endurance training
- An essential part of the Exercise to Music workout; learn how to design and structure work for specific muscle groups such as your abs and lower back.
- Cardiovascular training
- Learn about effective cardio vascular exercise in an Exercise to Music context and how to link moves and choreography together to ensure a progressive and smooth aerobic workout to suit a mixed ability group.
- Relaxation and stretching
- Understand basic flexibility techniques and how to apply them to the Exercise to Music class structure. Also how to relax your class effectively should they want to.
- Health and safety
- As an instructor you are responsible for the safety of your class whether through written and verbal screening or ensuring the space is clear to use.

Assessment
Candidates will produce a single detailed written plan for a safe and effective Exercise to Music session of 45 minutes in duration and present this class in front of an assessor.
Exams are scheduled approximately 3 weeks after the course and candidates are required to bring along 2 people on the day of their examination.
