Paul Emsley
Paul Emsley has dramatically changed his career in just four years. Previously working at a desk for 40 hours a week, he now leads an active lifestyle working as a successful personal trainer in Bristol whilst supporting the Antony Nolan Trust, a worthy cause close to his heart.
Paul explains: "After spending 25 years in banking, I had to make the decision to either stay put or take a chance and try something new. I'm a keen sportsman, runner and triathlete and the thought of working in the fitness industry sounded very exciting."
After signing up with leading leisure training provider Lifetime, based in Bristol, Paul completed the Fitness Instructor Award, Advanced Fitness Instructor Award and more recently the GP Referral course. All programmes provided him with the necessary skills and experience needed to work as a personal trainer. Paul now spends half a week working with personal training clients and the other half dealing with GP referred clients.
Paul says: "I am very interested in GP referral and the course with Lifetime has been really enjoyable and worthwhile. It provided me with information about a large range of conditions including high cholesterol and diabetes. The tutorials were very comprehensive and the workbooks were detailed and informative. The tutors were approachable, friendly and knowledgeable and certainly confirmed my belief that working in fitness was the right decision."
As well as developing his career in fitness, Paul is raising awareness of the Antony Nolan Trust and encouraging people to join its Bone Marrow register. Lifetime has vowed to support Paul when he runs the London Marathon on behalf of the charity next year.
Paul adds: "Keeping fit and healthy is very important to me. I sadly lost a parent to leukaemia 12 years ago and immediately joined the register. In May this year, I donated bone marrow to someone who suffered from leukaemia."
"Working as a personal trainer enables me to educate people on why it's so important that we lead healthy lifestyles and how we can help improve the lives of others. Lifetime has a great reputation for training people to work in the fitness industry. Having support from such a well-respected company beyond my studies is fantastic."
